I staden Calasparra finner vi helgedomen f\u00f6r Virgen de la Esperanza som \u00e4r stadens skyddshelgon. Denna helgedom ligger mestadels inne i en naturlig grotta, uthuggen av vattnet i floden Segura n\u00e4r vattenniv\u00e5erna var betydligt h\u00f6gre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naturliga grottor av denna karakt\u00e4r lockade alltid tidiga m\u00e4nskliga inv\u00e5nare som s\u00f6ker skydd, och historien om denna grotta g\u00e5r tillbaka till 1500-talet, d\u00e5 en herde som h\u00f6ll sin boskap i grottan uppt\u00e4ckte statyn av Virgen de la Esperanza ”La Peque\u00f1ica”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

F\u00f6rklaringen till detta fynd \u00e4r att statyn troligen l\u00e4mnats kvar av en kristen riddare som s\u00f6kte skydd i grottan men exakt hur denna staty hamnade i grottan f\u00f6rblir ett mysterium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inv\u00e5narna i staden f\u00f6rs\u00f6kte \u00f6verf\u00f6ra den till kommunen Calasparra men p\u00e5 grund av dess tyngd f\u00f6rstod de att Jungfrun ville bli v\u00f6rdad i grottan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Det finns ingen indikation p\u00e5 vilket datum detta h\u00e4nde och det har varit om\u00f6jligt att identifiera skulpt\u00f6ren eller ursprunget till La Peque\u00f1ita, \u00e4ven om det troligen var b\u00f6rjan av 1600-talet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c5r 1617 donerade Juana S\u00e1nchez, en \u00e4nka fr\u00e5n Mula, den st\u00f6rre statyn av Virgen de la Esperanza till helgedomen och de tv\u00e5 har v\u00f6rdats tillsammans sedan dess. Jungfrun uts\u00e5gs till Calasparras beskyddare 1840.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
