I takt med att m\u00e5nga sm\u00e5 och mellanstora jordbruk har lagts ner har arten f\u00f6rsvunnit fr\u00e5n stora delar av skogsbygderna d\u00e4r den tidigare h\u00e4ckade allm\u00e4nt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under 1600- och 1700-talet trodde man att n\u00e4r svalorna f\u00f6rsvann p\u00e5 h\u00f6sten s\u00e5 gick de i ide bland stenar och slam p\u00e5 sj\u00f6bottnarna och d\u00f6k upp igen p\u00e5 v\u00e5ren n\u00e4r isen sm\u00e4lt och solen tinat upp dem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u00e5nga avhandlingar har skrivits om detta och f\u00f6rst omkring 1850, d\u00e5 Vetenskapsakademin utsatte ett pris p\u00e5 30 riksdaler till den som bevisligen fiskat upp en levande svala, som man gick \u00f6ver till att tro att dom flyttade s\u00f6derut.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
